5 questions about staying in a bubble tent

At some point it pops up in your feed: a bedroom in the middle of the greenery. The bed under a transparent sphere, forest all around, the Milky Way above. First thought: beautiful, but surely somewhere in Iceland. Second thought: hang on – this exists here too. Dozens of locations in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
And then come the questions. Won't it get cold? What if it rains? What do you even pack? Good questions. Here are the answers, so you can set off on your micro-adventure.
1. What actually is a bubble tent?
Imagine a hotel room where someone forgot the roof and the walls. Well, almost. A bubble hotel – also called a bubble tent or bubble dome – is a transparent dome in the middle of nature. A quiet blower keeps it in shape and provides fresh air. Inside, a real bed awaits, with panoramic views in every direction.
No flat-screen TV in the bedroom, but a ceiling painting that repaints itself every night: sunset, full moon, stars and, with a bit of luck, a shooting star. The bathroom and shower are usually a few steps away – each location tells you exactly where.
In short: camping without wrestling with a sleeping bag. A hotel without walls. The best of both worlds!
2. Doesn't it get too cold – or too hot – in a bubble tent?
Good question! First things first: a bubble isn't a hotel room in a concrete building – and it doesn't want to be. The thin shell separates you from the weather, not from nature. In the end, it depends on the season. And that's exactly the appeal.
In spring, the birds' dawn chorus wakes you before your alarm even gets a chance. The sun kisses you awake – unless the person on the other side of the bed already has.
In summer, the bubble is your box seat for balmy summer nights. In the evening it gets pleasantly cool, and you watch the stars appear one by one. Your bedroom for intense summer nights – but without the mosquitoes. In the morning, the summer sun warms up the dome so nicely that you'll naturally head outside at some point: sunshine and coffee on the meadow wake up tired spirits.
In autumn, mist creeps across the meadow, the wind tugs at the trees, and you're right in the middle of it – wrapped up warm. Sleeping under the sky gets as romantic as it gets when the rain dances gently down the dome.
In winter, snowflakes fall on the dome and you watch them from below. Depending on the location, heating, an electric blanket or a heated mattress keeps you warm, and some places have a hot tub or sauna to warm up in. The listing tells you exactly what to expect. For the night, the camping rule applies: better one layer too many than too few.
3. What happens if it rains?
We won't leave you out in the rain. The dome is wind- and weatherproof, you stay dry – and above you, the rain drums out its rhythm. Drops trickle down the wall, outside everything smells of wet forest, and inside there's nothing to do but listen. You rarely sleep better. In a bubble, rain isn't plan B – it's an upgrade.
The only catch: the starry sky takes a break. But it comes back. And the morning after a rainy night is often the clearest.
4. What should you pack for a night in a bubble tent?
Less than you think. The listing tells you what the location provides. Our packing list takes care of the rest:
- Polaroid or analogue camera. No deleting, no filters, just real memories. You'll be amazed how good you look when you can't check first.
- Warm socks and a jumper. A game changer even in summer, when the campfire is slowly dying down but you want the night to go on.
- Sleep mask. For late risers used to blackout shutters.
- Card games or books. For digital detox moments or rainy nights.
- Snacks. Always good, wherever you are.
- Swimwear. For the hot tub, sauna or the lake around the corner.
And what stays at home? Your diary and, if you dare: your laptop and your phone.
5. Can you give a night in a bubble tent as a gift?
Yes – and it's one of the few gifts you get to enjoy twice: when you unwrap it and when you redeem it.
With a voucher, you're not giving a thing, but a memory: a getaway together in the peace of nature, the first look up at the starry sky, coffee in the morning mist. The lucky recipients choose which bubble it should be – vineyard, Black Forest or lakeshore. Take-off: whenever you like.
Perfect for a birthday, for rekindling a friendship, an anniversary, a wedding – or as cover for a really big question. Instead of yet another thing on the shelf, you're giving a story people will still be telling years later.
